Record with consent — first, every time
Nothing on this page changes the ethics of recording a session. Ask before you record, explain what the recording is for and how long you will keep it, document the client’s consent, and stop if they withdraw it. Follow your professional body’s guidance. Someone else’s server
Uploading a session means a copy of a client’s disclosures exists on infrastructure you do not control, subject to retention and access rules you cannot explain to them in plain language.
An extra presence
In online sessions, a notetaker bot in the participant list is a visible third party in a two-person space. Therapeutic alliance is hard to build with an unexplained observer present.
Automatic AI analysis
Tools that generate clinical summaries by default send the session onward the moment it ends. JesRecap analyses nothing unless you ask it to, and when you do, the optional AI notes run on your own machine rather than travelling to a vendor.
How JesRecap fits practice
In the room or online
For in-person sessions, JesRecap records the microphone. For online work it captures the audio your computer already plays — Core Audio process taps on macOS, WASAPI loopback on Windows — so no bot joins and the client sees only you.
Transcribed on your machine
A local Whisper-family model produces the transcript; a local diarization model adds speaker labels afterwards so your voice and the client’s are distinguishable. Both models are downloaded once and then run offline.
Kept, or deleted, by you
Sessions live in a local library as WAV files with metadata in a SQLite database. You can export Markdown or plain text for your notes, keep the audio for supervision, or delete a recording the way you delete any other file.
Clinical supervision
Supervision and case discussion benefit from an accurate record of what was said and agreed. Because both audio tracks are kept, you can revisit a supervision conversation or retranscribe it later without a cloud archive holding the material in between.
Your AI, if you use one at all
Meeting actions copy a summary, action-items or custom prompt with the transcript to your clipboard. Whether that transcript ever touches an AI service — and which one — is an explicit decision you make per session, with the client’s consent in view.
What stays local
Session audio, transcripts, speaker labels and library metadata all stay on your device. Recognition and diarization run on your own hardware. JesRecap’s only network traffic is the one-time speech model download and licence activation or checkout — neither carries a word of a session. No accounts, no telemetry, no cookies on this site.
Careful about compliance, careful about clients
JesRecap is not certified under HIPAA, GDPR or any professional standard, and we won’t say otherwise. Because processing is on-device, it is designed to support your compliance process in exactly the situations where cloud transcription cannot be approved: no third-party processor for session content, no transfer abroad, no vendor-held retention period.
The clinical and ethical parts remain yours: whether recording is appropriate for a given client, what you tell them, how long a recording is kept, how the device is encrypted and locked, and what belongs in the client record. If your practice has a data protection adviser, show them this description of the local pipeline rather than a compliance badge.

Is a session recording ever uploaded?
No. Capture, storage, transcription and speaker labelling all happen on your device. The only outbound requests are the one-time model downloads and licence activation or checkout.
Does the client see a recording bot in an online session?
No. JesRecap records the audio your computer already plays instead of joining the call, so nothing appears in the participant list. You must still tell the client you are recording.
Does JesRecap generate clinical notes or analysis?
Only if you ask it to, and never in the cloud. It produces a transcript, and it can copy a prompt with that transcript to your clipboard for an AI tool you choose. Or, with the optional AI notes on this device setting turned on, a local model drafts a summary or action items on your own machine, so the session never reaches a third party. It is a draft either way — clinical judgement and the final note stay with you.
Can I delete a recording completely?
Yes. Recordings are WAV files with metadata in a local database on your own machine, so deletion is a local action rather than a request to a vendor.
Can I keep only the transcript and discard the audio?
You can export the transcript as Markdown, plain text, JSON or captions and then delete the recording files. Keep in mind that deleting the audio also removes the ability to retranscribe that session later.
