JesRecap vs Otter.ai
Otter.ai is a cloud transcription service: audio goes up to Otter's servers, comes back as a transcript with a summary, and lives in a workspace you log into. JesRecap is a desktop app that records the audio your computer is already playing, transcribes it on the same machine, and writes the result to your disk. Same job, opposite architecture.

When Otter.ai is the better choice
- Nothing should need installing. A browser and a phone are enough, including on hardware you do not control.
- Coverage matters more than locality: a notetaker that attends calls you are not at, and a phone app for meetings away from your desk.
- Your team shares meeting notes, searches each other's history, and expects calendar and workspace integrations to do the routing.
When JesRecap is the better choice
- The conversation is confidential. Audio, transcript and metadata stay on the device, so there is no third-party copy to account for.
- You do not want a bot in the room. Guests see an ordinary call, and it works in any app — Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex, Slack huddles — or in person through the microphone.
- You want the raw material: microphone and system audio kept as separate tracks, so you can retranscribe a meeting later or export Markdown, text, JSON, SRT or VTT.
- You would rather pay once. From €34.95, nothing to renew.
Questions
Can I still get an Otter-style summary out of JesRecap?
Yes, two ways. A meeting action copies a ready-made prompt with the transcript already inside — summary, action items, or your own wording — and you paste it into whichever AI you use. Or turn on "AI notes on this device" and the same buttons write the note on your own machine, saved with the meeting. That switch is off until you enable it, and there is no cloud AI in either case, so you choose what leaves the device.
Does JesRecap identify who said what?
It labels speakers after the recording using a local diarization model, a one-time 54 MB download. Your own voice is separated from the rest because the microphone is recorded as its own track.
We could not get cloud transcription approved. Does local processing help?
It removes the part that is usually hardest to sign off: sending call audio to a third party. Processing on the device is designed to support your compliance process under GDPR- and HIPAA-style requirements. It is not a certification, and the assessment is still yours to make.
